Your Teeth Deserve a New Year’s Resolution

We all feel the twinkle of excitement and anticipation for the new year. After all, it is a chance to close last year’s book and start a new one. New Year, New You, right?! Resolutions of self-improvement run rampant during this time of the year. The gyms are packed with new members, social media is flooded with the newest diets and weight loss trends, and grocery lists have more greens and healthier foods on them. While it is wonderful to better your physical, mental, or overall health or wellbeing; making an attainable resolution that you can stick with all year is even better.
The word “resolution” is defined as a “firm choice or a promise to do something.” We all have jobs, lives, and things going on daily and it is very easy to start something and not follow through. One of the easiest things you can prioritize in 2026 is your oral health.
The first, and simplest step to take is to brush and floss twice daily. This is a very important and easy habit to form. Using an electric toothbrush is ideal, as they clean the teeth surface better than a regular one and most have timers so you get the full two minutes of brushing.
Do not skip your dental appointments! With proper home health care, and regular visits to your dentist for cleanings, exams and x rays, your oral health will be on point. Limiting your sugary and acidic drinks and food intake and drinking more water will help keep your mouth producing saliva during the day. This is beneficial, as saliva production helps fight away bacteria that cause cavities.
These easy and achievable resolutions will quickly become healthy habits that will last year-round. Addressing underlying issues like teeth grinding, quitting the use of tobacco products, and considering whitening for a healthier smile and you just might start loving your new healthy habit!
