Most people do not realize how not replacing a missing tooth can impact their life; they figure they will just take the cheap option of extraction and be done with it. Depending on your age, career path, and relationship status, the lifetime costs of a missing tooth can really add up if you’re not confident […]
Do you watch CSI, or Bones? They often rely on forensics to identify remains. Dr. Still is not a forensic dentist, but we thought this topic was very interesting! Throughout history, dental forensics has played an important role. As dental professionals, we continue to play a key role by keeping quality records on each patient. […]
We are all aware of the infamous, “Got Milk?” campaign, but have you ever really wondered why the big push to drink milk? Most of us grew up having milk with meals, but for some reason many people stop drinking milk as adults and this is just wrong, especially from a dental health standpoint! Calcium […]
A couple of years ago, we published a Blog about the benefits of digital X-ray vs. ‘the old fashioned way’ of taking X-rays. In this Blog, we will discuss more about WHY we take X-rays. Dental X-rays (radiographs) are images of your teeth that Dr. Still takes to evaluate your oral health. These X-rays are used with […]

Veneers, sometimes called porcelain veneers, are custom-made thin, semi-translucent “shells” bonded to your teeth. Veneers are customized from porcelain material and permanently bonded to your teeth. Veneers are a great alternative to otherwise more invasive dental procedures to improve the appearance of your smile. Common problems that veneers are used for: Spaces between the teeth […]

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. It is a time that brings families together, gives us an opportunity to appreciate and be thankful for all that has happened throughout the year. As Thanksgiving week approaches, we are reminded of how much we, in the dental profession, have to be thankful for. With Thanksgiving almost […]

They’re usually with us from November until May. Many of them have been patients […]
Every Fall, kids of ALL ages anxiously wait for Halloween. A big question asked by concerned patients is how to reduce the “sugary” effects of eating all that Halloween candy…and for that matter, any sweets. Sweets and candies are great treats when taken in moderation; however, in excess they aren’t good for your oral health or […]

And now there’s a new concern: E-Cigs. Chances are good that you’ve seen people “smoking” e-cigarettes: inhaling from cigarette-shaped devices, then puffing out […]

You have probably seen the advertisements for ‘Same-Day Dentures’ at a very low cost. This can be confusing because patients think a dentist can literally extract teeth and deliver the denture the same day. While there are a few clinic settings where this is done, we do not recommend it. The more proper terminology is […]
At Smile Sarasota, we of course talk a lot about teeth…usually HUMAN teeth. But there’s a whole world of other teeth out there! Human children have 20 baby teeth that fall out. Human adults have 32 teeth. Puppies have 28 teeth and adult dogs have 42. 42 teeth sounds like a lot, but it’s nothing […]

We say these words almost every day. And why is this important? Infective (Bacterial) Endocarditis. Infective endocarditis is a scary sounding […]

Snakes and fish do it. Cats and dogs do it. Even human babies do it inside the womb. And maybe after seeing the picture of these adorable puppies, you’re doing it now: YAWNING. Yawning appears to be ubiquitous within the animal kingdom. But despite being such a widespread feature, scientists still can’t explain why yawning […]
Patients come to our downtown Sarasota office every week and we listen to their stories. Often, dental insurance coverage, or lack thereof, is part of the story. But there are many things that prevent patients from seeking dental care: Lack of money Lack of time. No awareness that there is a problem or a solution […]

The human body is a miraculous thing. The mouth is a perfect illustration. Whenever you eat or drink something, digestion begins as you chew.
